Summary/Abstract: Since Armenia’s independence in 1991, three factors have driven the country into a policy orientation toward Europe. First, with the successful completion of the European Union’s enlargement rounds and Europe’s relatively long political stability and economic growth, Armenian political elites have thought and occasionally stated that EU involvement in the region, along with close relations with the EU, could serve as a guarantee for a democratic and secure future.
