Summary/Abstract: One thing that must be understood around corporate social responsibility is that the business case is very strong. If we look at any survey, all other things being equal, such as price and quality, the consumer will buy from the company that has a responsible attitude towards its community. Benchmarking has developed into a very popular regular improvement tool that has come to be seen as an essential component of internationally respected business excellence programs and good management practice. Literature demonstrates a broad and progressive fusion between the benchmarking concept and CSR praxis, but the existing models on this regard does not make a distinction between effective and ineffective benchmarking efforts, therefore a better knowledge of the theoretical framework and a validation of a new model would either confirm or not the doubts as to its efficiency and effectiveness in a wide range of organizational settings.
