Summary/Abstract: The revised Lisbon Strategy points out the weak economic performance of the EU and aims to set out the appropriate answers to achieve higher growth. As a new member state, Romania assumes the European agenda and aims to push for provision of the right competitiveness settings. The work paper aims to underline the importance of structural funds, generally, and of Sectoral Operational Program “increase of economic Competitiveness” for the economic development of Romania.
