Summary/Abstract: The great philosophers of antiquity are often accused of engendering misogyny and its attendant prejudices. This preconception of their work has often caused them to be cast as the bêtes noires of those seeking to combat such attitudes. This paper is offered as a contribution to the continuing interest which exists and which I have among many in combating such a preconception – as evidence that there is, in fact, more to be said. One of the most hotly debated issues in contemporary feminism is the postmodern deconstruction of the history of philosophy.
