The philosophical reflection of national identity

Summary/Abstract: The basic idea of the article rests on the presumption that the essential atribute of national identity is national consciousness. Its philosophical dimension means the selfreflection of the identity in the categories of universality. For these tasks, not adequate are the philosophical concepts inherited from the period of the Soviet occupation. More appropriate for the reflection of the present situation of the nation are the philosophical concepts created by such thinkers as A. Dambrauskas, S. Šalkauskis, A. Maceina, Vydūnas in the beginning of the 20th century.
