Summary/Abstract: The most numerous among medieval texts with eschatological subject-matter are the so called exempla. The questions which arise from the study of exempla are fundamental for the whole of the preserved Croatian Glagolitic written tradition which reflects spiritual and intellectual processes of the Middle Ages. The text Otñ pripodobleniê b(o)‘iê from two Croatian Glagolitic miscellany manuscripts from the 15th century indicates to some difficulties of the generic classification of Croatian medieval literature. Namely, the mentioned text is structured as a contrast, yet by some features it is close to one of the »small literary genres«, to the exemplum. Exempla have been one of the most popular genres of Western European medieval literature, but it should be pointed out that they are yet to be systematically investigated, particularly from the viewpoint of genre theory. Hence visions are determined primarily through their subject-matter and contrasts by their structure, the term exemplum could be viewed as a functional term.
