Summary/Abstract: In the introductory part, the paper analyses Islamophobia as a notion and a phenomenon and it tries to offer an answer to the question: is it realistically founded phenomenon or a carefully planned construct of the Western European political mindset, in order to serve as an alibi for attacks against Islam, for military interventions in Muslim countries in order to rule not just over its economy and politics, but also over its culture, religion, identity and mindset. In the second part, the paper presents the structure and the peculiar nature of the Western European mind, prone to present its own reality demurely and in absolute terms in relation to its own picture of the world, with no concern for the Other within its own system of references. Within the context of answering the question: what to do next? (on either side) the author presents a hypothesis that in addition to this phobic West, which often ignores the Other, produces animosities and fears, there is also a different West, much more thoughtful and lucid, ready to enter a dialogue and respect the Other within its own system of references. Muslim thinkers, religious leaders, politicians and ideologues searching for new perspectives for relations, should recognise this other West and communicate with it, in order to help facilitate the situation where Islamophobia becomes the dominant state of mind and the measure of relations with Islam and Muslims.
