Summary/Abstract: The Transformation Process and Growth Problems of Settlements and Regions in Slovakia. The paper attempts at presenting a more complex sociological-historical outline of the development of social-spatial problems of Slovakia, whereby stress is laid upon the period of industrial urbanization (1961-1990). It points both to the historical context of the current problems of settlements and regions which must be solved in the present transformation process and to the inner interconnection of social problems of settlements and regions with social-economic, ecological and civilizational problems which, on the one hand, complicate possibilities of their development, on the other hand they influence even formation of developmental disproportions of regions and their settlements in the present period.
