Summary/Abstract: This essay analyses a letter by Juliusz Słowacki to his mother, where the poet describes his secret diplomatic journey from Dresden to London during the November Uprising (1830/1) in Poland. His account is juxtaposed with the then-emerging swashbuckler novel genre (known in French as a roman de cape et d'épée) and with a poem by Julian Wołoszynowski, which tackling the same event hundred years earlier.
