Summary/Abstract: The recent visit of President Mikheil Saakashvili to Brussels has unveiled the true intention of Europe to include Georgia into the “New neighborhood – wider Europe” initiative. Such a development of events was quite unexpected for many, though it seemed a logical end of the process that started with the Rose Revolution and demonstrated to the world that Georgia is an integral part of Europe, sharing all of the common European values and identity. The Georgian president’s visit has aroused hopes among Georgians that Georgia is about to join EU, but unfortunately it is not the case just yet. Inclusion into the Wider Europe strategy is a very significant step forward, though it is not yet a beginning of integration. Let’s look at the implications of the Wider Europe strategy for Georgia and observe the paths that Georgia can take towards further integration into the EU.
