CLUSTERS – POSSIBLE INITIATORS OF DEVELOPMENT OF SERBIAN AGRICULTURE

Summary/Abstract: Production capacity of Serbia are great and its potential should be used for development of food products as it is done in developed countries. In order to successfully develop the economy, the government has together with development and financial institutions, based on information from the market, implement a realistic and achievable development strategy. Serbia needs to enlarge its production, raise its productivity and improve product quality and brand leading local products in order to be competitive with foreign brands. The question arises whether manufacturers, who are burdened with many problems, are ready to find a way to implement these standards? These problems can be solved significantly faster and more efficient with networking, i.e. forming clusters. In order to face these challenges and achieve results with these clusters, it is essential that the government and the private sector get more and more seriously involved in the improvement of clusters in the country.
