Summary/Abstract: Nations as "imagined communities" need auto- and hetero-stereotypes to constitute group-feelings. The process of demythologisation of the romanian history has for this reason effects for the self-perception of the own group. The contribution describes different positions of self-evaluation, between the conflicting priorities of the concentration on own, local values and the attempts to integrate in the european culture. The nationalistic perspective that became influent after 1989 has its bases on older ideas about the romanian nation and its enemies. Ethnocultural stereotypes are reactivated amplified.
