Summary/Abstract: Memory and New Foundation: Portrait of the Father and Picture of Germany (Christoph Meckel, Suchbild. Über meinen Vater, 1980). Suchbild. Über meinen Vater is dedicated to Christoph Meckel’s father and is a good example of the German Vaterroman of the 1970-1980s. Eberhard Meckel was indeed a well known writer of the 1930s, whose poetry has somehow served the Nazi ideology. This study focuses firstly on the way how different kinds of memories (familial, collective, individual) are painfully linked together. It will then attempt to show that Christoph Meckel deals with different forms of new literary foundation after National Socialism.
