EXPERIENCES OF MACEDONIA IN DEALING WITH CORRUPTION WITHIN LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT

Summary/Abstract: The empirical data and information that can be observed from aspect of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption work and other supervisory bodies and institutions in the country, demonstrate that the process of government decentralization at the same time means decentralization process for corruption possibilities from central to local level. Once more it confirmed the saying that corruption is present at where decision-making takes place. Seizing corrupted individuals is done through establishing systematic and correct normative and institutional measures, regulations and procedures. In this direction, the Republic of Macedonia has established concrete normative and institutional framework for fight against corruption. That framework needs to function more efficiently and to provide more realistic, visible and efficient results. The efficient processing, the real epilogue i.e. sentencing for the corrupted individuals, shall be most effective for the ones that are planning on engaging in corruptive actions.
