The Peculiarities of Shifting Poetry Assessments in “Nemunas” Magazine Reviews (1973–1990)

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the editorial and critical practices in the magazine “Nemunas” from 1973 till 1990. Under discussion are critical and editorial strategies in a field of Lithuania poetry. This magazine represented the attitudes towards gradually modernized poetry, dominating aesthetic but not ideological values and new methods in critical reviews. The young generation poetry aspect is also discussed, arguing that the relationship between the old and the new in contemporary Lithuanian poetry faced conflicts between generations and problematic relationship with poetry readers. The main motive in editorial strategies was towards modernization of Lithuanian poetry and getting liberation from the ideological doctrines of socialist realism.
