Summary/Abstract: An obvious tendency to view Mihail Sebastian’s work through the magnifying glass of prejudice is still at work with many of his critics. His writings are exiled among the imprisoned elements of certain paradigms or of a given historical context, which we would like to think of as obsolete, exhausted, irrelevant, ephemeral. This results in a judgment that leads to a simplification with morganatic effects. Reread, freed from constraints, unified, Mihail Sebastian’s work accounts for one of the most fundamental struggles of the human being, regardless of the geography limiting it or the fatidic figure of the year of one’s birth: the need for meaning and identity.
