Summary/Abstract: The article proposes to emphasize the existence of a patrimony of common faith of the Western and Eastern Churches around St. Andrew's apostle. The place where the cult of the Apostle's relics was born is where the Apostle, Patras, was buried. With the relocation of the relics to Constantinople, in the middle of the sec. IV, "The new Rome" was put under the protection of the apostle Andrew. His cult in the Byzantine Empire was born late, aiming at strengthening the patri-archs' authority there - with the help of the apostolic principle - in their confron-tations with the papacy the growing authority of the Byzantine emperors. Once founded, the cult was then built in stages, reaching in the 19th century the feast of excellence of the Constantinopolitan patriarchal seat.
