Summary/Abstract: Abstract: Directorial and Stage Instructions. Contributions to the Historical Survey of the Research of Stage Instructions Directorial instructions are still in the empirical domain, as in the current state of science they have not been clearly defined. Their origins and role link them to stage directions, but following the logic of familiarity, they are akin to instructions for mass, liturgical celebration or even work in masonic lodges. Revealing these connections might lead to the opening of a series of exciting and new questions in several directions. However, this study focuses on the historical survey of the research of stage directions, with special attention to the views of Roman Ingarden and Tamás Bécsy. The analytical and evaluative presentation of their ideas is justified not just because they are the referential foundation for later studies of literary theory, but also by their applicability to the analysis of directorial instructions.
