Summary/Abstract: In many of Shakespeare's plays, there is a strong contrast between the country and the not-country, the latter of which is sometimes city but most often court. The contrast these plays reflect lies in the differences between, on the one hand, institutions of strict order and rules, which depict city or court life, and, on the other hand, a less prescribed life style, a space where the limitations set by urban civilization do not apply and everything and/ or anything is possible, that is country life. It is this contrast in Shakespeare‘s comedy As You Like It that I will look into more closely in the current article.
