Summary/Abstract: Notes Toward a Supreme Desire: Wallace Stevens, Poetry and the World as Malheur. This paper provides an overview of Wallace Stevens’s treatment of the interplay of perception, desire and poetic expression by focusing on a number of relevant passages which can corroborate the assumption that “absence,” “lack” and “void” can be regarded as taglines of the poet’s peculiar worldview.
