The depreciation of work and effort in the coloured magazines for youth

Summary/Abstract: The Author takes under considerations youth magazines and their influence on a generation which enters its adult life. The content of such journals is dominated by a spirit of fun. In his contact with the extreme hedonism a youngster feeds on ideals of easiness, comfort, pleasure, and freedom from trouble. From colored pages he can learn that all his needs are to be fulfilled. Yet, if a man seeks to develop himself integrally he needs to work, trouble, and make efforts. In a context of the promo-tion of hedonistic goods – in the light of the article – it is necessary to indicate the crucial role of ascetism (gr. áskesis – excercise, formation) in the shaping of moral character.
