Dimensions of Jihad

Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the concept of holy war and its possible associations with the Islamic notion of jihad. In this context, the author addresses in particular the multifarious meanings and aspects of jihad, which he corroborates with ayats from the Qur’an and the ahadith of the Prophet Muhammad, s.a.w.s. The author concludes by setting out arguments in support of the assertion that western European thinkers have a prejudiced view of jihad, deliberately distorting its essential meaning, which extends well beyond the phenomenon of war.
