Summary/Abstract: The national state between two contrary types of forces – the globalization and integration tendency (McWorld) and the so-called Jihad – any religious, ethnic or archaic forces that create different identities able to destroy the national state. The national state, nevertheless, remains the symbol of political identity, the spine of democracy and the warrant of stability.
