Summary/Abstract: University Library "Svetozar Markovic" in Belgrade as an independent institution, officially opened to customers on the day of Saints Cyril and Methodius 24th May 1926th year, with a fund of about 30,000 books. One of the oldest and largest scientific libraries in Serbia, for which purpose built building. University of Belgrade founded the library with the mission to be his expert assistance in research and teaching. Business Automation Library began 1988th year and its inclusion in the system of scientific and technological information of Yugoslavia. Established an electronic catalog, which is available online 24 hours a day. Immediately after the introduction of Internet services in Serbia and library to its members provide a search and the first national library site on the Internet was made in May 1996. in the University Library. Mission is defined objective of their existence the University library “Svetozar Markovic”, which is primarily to meet the needs of the scientific and technical information of students and faculty of Belgrade University, and other citizens who have information needs at the academic level, collection, processing , storing and providing the use of information resources in paper and electronic form. The database of users, which is kept since 2003. , a total contains information on 19,808 customers. Students are the most numerous, they were 13,275, and over 700 customers a teaching staff of the University. The University Library has begun the implementation of the digitization of its funds, primarily of old and rare books, and thus, part of special cultural significance will make available to all its customers.
