Summary/Abstract: The study describes the results of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 and the problems it led to. The Immigration reform and Control Act (IRCA) had an impact on both legal and illegal immigration, but the study deals with the effects it had on illegal immigration. The study describes the impact that the employer sanctions regime and legalization had as well as the effectiveness of the Border Patrol. The conclusion tells us what could have been done to make IRCA more effective.
