Summary/Abstract: The Influence of English Syntax on Some Fashionable “Romanian” Nicknames. The present paper aims at offering insight into the problem of language change. The influence of English on the choice of some Romanian show-biz nicknames is scrutinized as it shows a “creolization”2 of Romanian not only at the lexical level, but at the syntactical level as well. The “creolized” Romanian syntax (rom. sintaxa “romgleză”) is used in social contexts that impose an individuation of the average persona, thus displaying interesting pragmatic influences upon culture.
