Summary/Abstract: Debates about security and strategic concepts have retained their place at the core of international relations theory and policy-making for some decades. Shortly after the Second World War, during the Cold War period, realism and the concept of national security dominated the field of security analysis. By the end of the Cold War the international environment and basic conditions of international relations had changed. The new international environment initiated debate about the basic characteristics of the international system, about relations among various actors, about the prospect of stability, the evolution of international relations, and last but not least about security.
