Summary/Abstract: The present study tries to elucidate some epistemic concepts, embedded in Beneš´s text. The concepts of truth, solidarity, justice, and honesty seem to frequently function as dominant motifs not only in the author´s novels and short stories, but also in his journalistic essays. As Beneš himself pointed out, the moral and ethical tenets had been preoccupying his mind ever since he had experienced the inhuman conditions of the communist prison. In the Sixties, Beneš belonged to the category of czech writers who might be referred to as „dissidents.“ These were the true iconoclasts whose literary production did not fit the narrow limits of the officially sponsored socialist realism. Moreover, some of the dissident writers were boldly outspoken in their criticism of the socialist society. As a result, their opinion and work were strictly censored by the political arbiters of the tendentious socialist arts.
