LOCAL CREATION AS REFLECTED IN CONTEMPORARY POPULAR MUSIC

Summary/Abstract: The article describes the problem of hybridization of modern culture. Nowadays it often evolves though cultural exchange and amalgamation of local cultures, which are transformed on the level of popular culture. The topic of hybridization is presented by an analysis of popular music that refers to traditional local music cultures. The author illustrates these issues with an example of research conducted on selected groups of students. Through the analysis of their reflections about specific songs which are connected with different cultural background (Ukrainian, Basque, Turkish, Polish), the author presents the topic of hybridization of culture and transformations that concern traditional local cultures.
