Summary/Abstract: Dilema magazine tries to answer this issue a question concerning educational system in Romania. The Ministry of Education remained responsible for the administration and financing of education and organized the designing of the new compulsory curriculum and the production of new manuals. Within high schools syllabi, optional subjects were introduced, but schools still had reduced authority in making changes. In 1998, a new service for evaluation and examination was created.
