Summary/Abstract: The article follows the state policy of socialist Bulgaria with regard to the institutional separation of disadvantaged children. Based on a concrete example – the socialist homes “Mother and Child” (DMD) – the text tracks the changes in the biopolitics of the state (regarding illegitimate births and patterns of adoption, ethnic minorities, people/children with disabilities). By centralizing and nationalizing the entire social work, by “eliminating” other entities in the social sphere, by disrupting public debate, by means of the occupational health model the socialist state actually carried out a policy that can be defined not only as “social engineering” but as ( disguised ?) Eugenics.
