Summary/Abstract: The paper presents information on the studies (German and English) on the Turkish immigrant community in Germany. The basic stages and tendencies in the development of these studies are outlined as well as the problems tackled by the authors. The review points to three phases. The first phase started with the recruitment workers from Turkey for Germany in the 1960s of the XX century. The studies from this period mostly focused on the economic benefits of the Turkish immigration, its adaption to the new environment and the preservation of the traditional value system of the community. The second phase of the Turkish immigration and related studies began in 1974 when the families of the male workers joined them in Germany. The immigration process was transformed. The studies addressed socially related issues. Fieldwork research on the living conditions of the Turkish immigrants was carried out. The third phase of the research was marked after 1978 when the identity problem of the immigrants was emphasized as well as the model of their integration.
