Summary/Abstract: This study is the outcome of a three years research among the teenagers of Bucharest and Bruxelles, research that present different ways of proximity and transformation of the SMS. Two dimensions are about to be developed: the usage in the purpose of communication and the usage as an identity construction strategy. Young people `s culture is a culture of communication, consumption, but also a culture of emotions. The SMS is a product of the young people `s culture and subscribes itself in the dynamics of this culture, among other cultural phenomena that present the young people culture as a culture that impresses through the will to demarcate itself from the other – the child and the adult.
