Summary/Abstract: Both in Bulgarian and in foreign historiography great attention is paid to the campaigns of Vladislav Varnenchik in 1443–1444 as well as the Battle of Varna which took place on 10th November 1444. While there are scholars who devote their entire creative life to this subject, even today there is still much controversy in scholarly circles. All this comes from the fact that historical sources contradict each other and give opportunity for various interpretations. One of the most disputable points of this controversial subject is the fate of Varnenchik after the battle in Varna. In the present study I set the task to examine the major historical sources that provide information on this topic, and give my perspective on the problem. Is it possible that Vladislav Varnenchik really survived the battle? At this point there can hardly be a definite answer. Comparing the historical sources, I think it is more plausible to trust the participants in the march (Andreas December Palacio, Hans Mergest etc.), who explicitly agreed that the King was killed.
