Summary/Abstract: In this essay we will critically examine the assumption that inequality is the fundamental problem facing the global economy. We present the process of the generating of income by distinguishing between „economic“ and „political“ means of income generation in the context of political philosophy. We will turn our attention to various key aspects: how does the economy grow, what causes poverty and how does the state interference with the market affect the process of income distribution – who gains and who loses from the act of meddling with the market process? The article attempts to shed light on the ethical aspect of the question whether or not there can be a logically defensible moral case that equality is inherently a virtue and moral value.
