Contemporary trends in library material processing some examples from theory and practice of information organization

Summary/Abstract: In recent years, some essential changes have occurred in both library material processing and perception of the role and function of catalog. These changes are not well known enough in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These changes are happening continuously in accordance with development of information and telecommunication technology. Some of the basic changes will be pointed out in this paper. FRBR is a document which represents the expression of the new way of rethinking cataloging and by which a catalog is given new functions. Also, by creating appropriate documents some innovations are introduced in the field of cataloging of electronic resources and serial publications. Normative control and implementation of the principles of subject heading languages are fields which still require more work. These innovations are shown in the paper through analysis of some examples.
