Spiritual Meditations on Theology — a Homage to Father Academician Professor Dr. Dumitru Stăniloae

Summary/Abstract: The Theology can be a science, but must be a science in God and above this, theology must be a way of life, a way of relating to God and to the word in which we live. And the experience of the true theologians in state of holiness is not only a miracle, but an absolutely necessary condition of Christians today. The conception about theology and theological education of Pr. Prof. Dumitru Staniloae is one faithful to Church Fathers. Education of young people is closely connected with Christian morality and of all subjects, theology fully satisfy the thirst for knowledge. Far from being just a science, theology is an expression of religious experience which should produce religious experience. So, theological school is the place for knowledge of God. The divine knowledge is closely connected with the ideal of theologian student – the priesthood, a quality of the soul which is acquired through courage and angelic purity. Pr. Dumitru Staniloae recommended religious reading, a father confessor – as an existential model and an increase in church worship, to deepen the spiritual life of theological students. Theological education doesn't exclude systematic study, but it suggests an acquirement through meditation and prayer. The purpose of this education is to transform the man and the society, to resemblance with Christ, the Supreme Teacher.
