Summary/Abstract: What is significant about officially used language after the year 1989 is dramatic influence of casual language, vulgarisms, colloquialisms and slang. Their presence generally introduces emotional and 'everyday' quality into formal texts. The article depicts word-formative processes, characteristic for everyday Polish, like disintegrative derivation (komuch, Angol / a communist, an Englishman), alternative derivation (ksywa, wóda / nickname, vodka), mutilation (hasz, merc, komp, w porzo, spoko / hashish, Mercedes, computer, OK, no problem), which create expressive neologisms and belong to a lower, slang register, however, they are eagerly acquired by official language. High frequency of their usage makes them ennobled and widely accepted.
