Summary/Abstract: To date, thanks to special studies, it has started to form an idea about the occupational layer as a complex formation, which includes remains of human activity embedded in a geological stratum. A micro-stratigraphic analysis of structure of the Middle Paleolithic layer 2В4 in Mezmaiskaya Cave reveals the existence of three levels of sedimentation and two levels of concentration of archaeological material, each of the latter containing fireplaces. As a result of spatial analysis, it was concluded that each of the occupational levels has a different structure. Analysis of the lithic industry detects certain differences between the two levels of habitation. Complex studies allow to reconstruct palaeogeographical conditions of human habitation in the cave.
