Summary/Abstract: V.I. Beliaeva is a recognized expert in the field of research on the Upper Paleolithic of Russian plain. A large part of scientific activity she has dedicated to the study of two classical sites — Pushkary 1 and Kostenki 1. The peculiarity of V.I. Beliaeva’s studies is an increased attention to morphological and typological analysis of the stone inventory, first of all, categories such as Kostenki knives and shouldered points. The results of analysis of Kostenki knives, conducted by V.I. Beliaeva together with M.D. Gvozdover, has led to recognition of the need to study a production technology and usage of not only these tools, but also other categories. The efficiency of the technological approach is confirmed by recent special studies, with the key of success of the technological method application was just a good knowledge of a morphological structure of implements. The most important event in the study process of Pushkary 1 was the discovery of a small dwelling that permits better understanding of peculiarities of the classical three-hearth dwelling studied by P.I. Boriskovskiy. No less fascinating is a complex of archeological objects associated with an external hearth. In general, the excavations of V.I. Beliaeva allowed showing a far more complex character of the Pushkary settlement than it was seemed earlier. Currently, the researcher believes that the site could be compared to the initial stage of West European Magdalenian. This is evidenced by the material culture of Pushkary 1, different from both the classic Eastern Gravettian sites and the later sites located in the Desna River basin and the Dnepr River middle basin.
