The Council’s Regulation Proposal on the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor

Summary/Abstract: On the 17th of July 2013, the European Commission adopted the package EPPO/Eurojust: the Council’s Proposal for a Regulation on the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor and the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on Eurojust. The establishment of a European Public Prosecutor to protect the financial interests of the EU is not an original idea of the Lisbon Treaty, as it has been proposed by a number of previous documents: Corpus Juris, 1997; European Commission Green Paper of 11 December 2001 on the protection of the financial interests of the Community and establishment of the European Public Prosecutor.
