Summary/Abstract: The paper proposes a treatment of the motive “meeting between a king/tsar and a saint” as an original and subject producing code of the Bulgarian statehood. On this basis could be distinguished the mythologems of the Beginning and the End and about the sacral two first rulers. The realization and actualization of the motive is considered in three groups of texts from different cultural contexts: mediaeval historical apocalyptic texts, saint life’s and legends about St. Ivan from Rila and the legends/sagas about kingdom’s fall and rise, written down in 19 century. The stability of the motive and its versions is caused by the archetype mental toposes in the collective memory as well as their ideological actualization and construction in different periods of the Bulgarian statehood.
