Summary/Abstract: By the logic of life itself, a small child is predisposed to investigate, to discover, to make experiments, and to symbolise in various ways. From its first days a child makes its way through a multitude of sensorial-motoric impressions, as well as of those referring to human relations. Also, it receives various messages about itself and builds the first picture on them about itself. Pedagogues and educators have undoubtedly recognised and marked a small child as an investigator that from the first days of life examines everything at its reach. Long has the view been espoused that this refers to the earliest years, and that with the third year a period of some kind of learning sets in. Such views have long since been overcome. It is understood that one learns through investigation, regardless of a child’s age. In the contemporary world a child is surrounded by countless elements which can attract its attention and interest. The need to investigate, to discover and to know is individually selective and is realised in tandem with child’s personal interests and motivation.
