Summary/Abstract: The article presents Božena Němcová, a Czech writer and collector of folk narratives in Czech lands and Slovakia. The article describes the role of B. Němcová in the folklore research in the half of the 19th century, her ideas about folk narrative. It points out the importance of her publications as sources for historical ethnographic research.
