Summary/Abstract: The study investigated an effect of a type of surname on perception of physical attractiveness. In the experiment participants (n = 65) were introduced to judges either under their normal surname or under funny surnames. It was surveyed whether the type of surname would influence perception of physical attractiveness and pleasantness of the participants. The results revealed only a poor effect of the surnames. However, when more attractive participants were selected from the sample, the results showed slightly higher differences between both conditions, whilst evaluated by opposite gender judges. The results are discussed in terms of stereotypical perception, implicit theory of personality and Gestalt psychology.
