Summary/Abstract: The author describes the main trends in the historiography of the heroic defense of Leningrad and its blockade during the Great Patriotic War. Author shows how the coverage of mortality problem changed due to current political situation, highlights the difficulties faced by historians under the Party dictate. Article analyzes the modern Russian historical literature on the battle for Leningrad.
