Summary/Abstract: Juxtaposing the economic problems which Poles faced after 1918 and after 1989 is extremely difficult and somewhat unreliable if we assume that history repeats itself or that historical analogies offer ready-made solutions to today’s difficulties. Nevertheless, keeping the different conditions in mind, a look at our social and economic lives from a broader economic perspective is worth the effort. I suggest we focus the view—ipso facto fragmentary—on the differences in the economic system, level of economic activity, market balance and social attitudes in economic life.
