Modern information and communication technologies introduced in the course enable the teacher and the students access, collect, process, present and transmit information without any time or space limitations and thus create new opportunities and conditions for life-long learning. One of Lithuanias goals outlined in its strategic documents is implementation of EU guidelines for the development of social policy and its adjustment to global tendencies. The aim of the courses redesigned and adapted for distance studies is to foster learner’s understanding of the concept of time management in the study process, their ability to manage time resources effectively and balance family and work relations. The process of redesigning and adaptation of the courses or mixed type studies is a timely initiative training qualified labour force and promoting the implementation of state strategies. Students do tasks using various virtual and printed learning resources such as websites, web pages and city libraries accessing them from home, university, and workplace. The considered disadvantages of mixed type studies may be grouped into two categories: technological and psychological. Technological disadvantages are conditioned by limited access to computer technology and equipment and literacy in them. State initiatives to give refunding for the purchase of a PC are a very positive step. Psychological limitations are related to peoples negative attitudes towards changes and their quite understandable need of direct communication with the teacher which may be replaced by News forums when frequent personal e-contacts develop a special user-friendly communication milieu.
