Summary/Abstract: The article represents the discourse dedicated to national stereotypes. The author analyzes the stereotype of a German in Polish culture and the stereotype of a Pole in German culture. She presents the forming of such mutual images of a stranger in history. She analyzes also some chosen texts by Stefan Chwin: they represent both stereotypical perceptions of analyzed nations as well as attempts to break the stereotypes. The article traces the ways of deconstructing mutual stereotypes.
