Summary/Abstract: Through reinsurance, the non-life insurance companies get the opportunity to reduce the fluctuations in the payment of these benefits. A key point in the reinsurance relationship is the definition of self detention - the maximum amount of the potential loss that the insurance company must pay. In this connection, the information used in the annual reports can provide a basic idea for the insurance companies activities, to create a possibility for the application of some basic parameters (ratios) associated with the definition of self detention. Thanks to it, it becomes possible to outline a "peculiar picture”, which reflects the application of the recommended criteria in determining the own share of responsibility of the individual non-life insurance company.
